You’ve probably watched The Apprentice and thought I could do that! And you’re likely right. After all, if you can drive a car, mother a child or read maps, you have the skills to run some kind of business. But while that is fact, what about the myths? Can anyone run a business? Is starting a business too much for someone who doesn’t get on well with paperwork and figures?

We’re going to find out.

1) What do I need to do to start a business?

Let’s use the example of Julie. Now, Julie has always been obsessed with jewellery . She loves wearing it, adores making it, and spends weekends traipsing around markets with her stuff, trying to earn some extra income. But when it comes to going official, Julie isn’t so determined or good at following rules..

For many business, a laptop and working internet connection takes care of marketing and selling…

When she goes online, however, she discovers that it’s much easier than she first thought. All she has to do is register with HM Revenue and Customs, create a company name and pay National Insurance. This can all be done with a few clicks, and that really is all that need be done to begin with. After that it’s up to Julie whether or not she gets a business account (many small businesses don’t as they operate mainly online, without much paperwork, or don’t earn enough to be taxed).

 2) I’m worried I can’t earn a decent wage per hour.

This is something many people worry about. They believe that they can earn more in a shop. That’s largely not true. Minimum wage is astoundingly low, and most business turn over more per hour. Of course, as with selling rings and necklaces, that doesn’t mean you’ll earn a good amount every day. But what you lack in security you make up for in massive amounts of freedom and job satisfaction.

3) I can’t afford to start a company, isn’t it really expensive?

The good news is…not always! For many business, a laptop and working internet connection takes care of marketing and selling, while a few tools and a spare room – or dining table – are enough to get going. Don’t be put off by a lack of space either – you’d be surprised at how much some people earn in a very limited space!

…

Are we really in such a bad time that things don’t work anymore? The recession is taking it’s toll with the largest economies running into minus trillions of dollars, but as individuals, should we really sit around and wait? Should we wait for the markets to rise to find our employment?

This so isn’t the case after watching The Apprentice and Lord Sugar whip up some old tricks from his bag of trades. I’m quite astonished how things are actually going, and I must say that in this time and age when we have faced the worst of mother nature’s wrath, the worst stock crashes ever recorded, the highest temperatures ever recorded, there are still ways to make money, and people are willing to buy. Let me give you an example. Though the papers and the magazines say that people don’t have money to feed themselves, the Apple iPad2 sold at record breaking prices. This is proof that the system still works. People aren’t afraid to take out their wallets, the only thing they are scared to do is trust anyone. If you’re a truthful person with an honest business, people will buy and invest from you provided you can bring return to their investments.

Hence the moral of the story is that we can all cry and weep and point fingers and say that some people are responsible for this recession, you can still send threatening letters to your ex-boss for firing you. But the truth is the markets are open, people are ready to business and you need to get out there and makeyour mark.

Are you a student aiming for a good job after graduation? Are you a person who enjoys his free time but knows that not everything is full of couch roll time and television? Then the following lines might actually influence you and give you an idea of why and how to become the person you need to be to succeed academically.

When studying, a person knows that knowledge would give him a good payback. This is the reason why rule number one for academic success is the exclusion of time wasting. Even during holidays and breaks, you need to keep yourself academically active. During the afternoon break you can always read a few lines. During the spring holiday you can always see what your next year modules in university would be so that you can read at least one core reading during the summer.

But why do that? I have always been an easy-going person without too much pressure to put on myself. However, this did not really pay back as my first year in Uni was not what I hoped for. This is why I came up with the following scheme: a) I research all I need to do for the next year and pick up the most sophisticated module; b) I read the core reading during the summer break when I have plenty of time and prepare diligent notes and descriptions of the material; c)the bare refreshment is enough for me to perform well during the next academic year - I have more time for the other modules and the most complicated one is out of the scheme since it has already been prepared.

What is the result? It is clear that after such a simple step to take, you enhance your academic performance, become more employable in the future and ensure that you would capture the attention of the top employers in the sphere you are interested in.

If you work freelance and you receive payments through PayPal that are not given to you on a monthly basis, but rather on a project-by-project basis, you are probably having a hard time trying to figure out just how much tax you are liable to pay. First of all, you must ensure that you have a record of every payment you receive (including deductions from PayPal’s fees) in order to work out your total salary for the year. If you have another full-time or part-time job, you will also need to add your supplementary freelance income to this figure. For the 2011-2012 financial year, you are not required to pay the basic tax rate until you have earned more than £7,475 in gross income. So, for example, if you are already being paid through HMRC’s PAYE system (which takes the tax-free allowance into account) through a main job, the full amount of income you earn on your freelance work will be taxed at the basic rate from the first pound. When you receive you annual P60 form from your employer by the end of May each year, you must make sure all of the information on the form is correct. Otherwise, it will take HMRC even longer to give you the cheque containing your tax refunds. Even when you do submit the P60 with the right information, it can still take as much as 6 weeks to receive the refund (leaving you waiting like a couch roll!), which you then have to take to the bank for the cheque to be cleared!

China, a growing nation, with a population potential of 2 billion in 30 years. Their growing needs of food, power, water and land will rise, and that rise will be achieved by atleast 2030. Now the biggest issue on the table is the fact the American political influence reaches far into the Middle East, Central Asia, Far East all the way the Hawaii and Guam.
They are the US hubs for forward operating bases with fully equipped military installations that include fully functional maritime fleets, Air force, Marine Corps camps, Coast Guard camps and other special ops like Delta Force operation bases. RIMPAC and VALIANT SHIELD exercises aims specifically to neutralize a growing threat of China, the exercises might turn out to do the exactly the opposite of what it was meant to do. These exercises are only meant to be used as a safety net, but if the US continues to install more forces in the Middle East, Afghanistan, Iraq, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore and the rest, this will continue to threaten the Panda and turn it into a potential fire breathing dragon. One action begets the same in response. A building threat will beget a building threat from China.
Hence the situation will need a political and diplomatic answer rather than a military answer, as a military force will lead to nuclear wars which will leave us with no winners and no losers. However if the other countries try to instead reap of the business benefits of growing economy of China rather than exchange threat remarks, the power over the Pacific and Central could be shared than fought for. No Primary teaching jobs could teach politicians the idea of Diplomacy unless they foster it into their foreign policy.

It sounds like a simple enough question to answer, right? Many of you will be shrugging and laughing and saying “of course I can survive without it, how ridiculous is that?” and then there’ll be a few more who are not so sure but still not going to admit they are internet-dependent any time soon.

But the fact is that it’s no exaggeration to say that most people nowadays would miss the internet if it vanished. And I suspect it’s also no exaggeration to say that for a lot of people, it really would ruin their lives in more ways than one.

Take me for example. Could I survive just by using a carrier pigeon? I suppose I could, but I’ve never liked pigeons, and the idea of trusting one with an important letter is making me quite worried. Yet, if it came down to it I would get used to it, I suppose. What I wouldn’t get used to, however, would be having to go down to the shop and buy a paper everyday. Nowadays I just check the news online. And if it came down to it, could a carrier pigeon carry a newspaper? I find it unlikely to be honest, and I wouldn’t want to break a pigeon’s back trying to find out.

Whether you live in plush Lanzarote Villas or in the Scottish highlands, none of us can really do without the internet. I’m afraid it’s ingrained in our lives now, and not much is going to change that fact.

So often today you turn on the TV and find people moaning about the youth of today. At first you mutter “those people, are kids really that bad? I bet they aren’t” and then you find out that a brick the size of a car has gone flying through someone’s window and bashed them over the head. Then you realise that actually, being old in a world full of youngsters who seem to be running wild is actually no fun at all…

The thing is, though, there are some kids who are alright. Only last night I watched a documentary about teenagers in London who were harnessing their creative energy into doing something positive. In this case, they were going in to old people’s homes and producing beautiful art work which could hang on the walls and brighten the place up. It made me realise how, although there are a lot of problem kids out there, there are also a lot of good kids. Often it’s just a case of helping them in the right way: namely, a way that they can understand and use to their fullest potential.

Unfortunately the media loves bad teenagers who do horrible things. I can’t help thinking that if they spent half the time helping teenagers and younger children – as well as portraying some of the good things they do – then a lot more people would be much more aware of all the good they are doing in the society in which they live.

<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Verdana’,’sans-serif’; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin"">Recently a friend of mine was ranting about how their property manager messed up their lives and almost had their tenants suing. I decided to find out what to look for when choosing a property manager just in case I need one in the distant future.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"/>
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Verdana’,’sans-serif’; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin"">Check the credentials of any potential property manager just like you would for labs when doing DNA tests. How qualified are they to do what they do. What kind of experience do they have.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Verdana’,’sans-serif’; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin"">Before choosing a property manager, you should consider whether you need any property manager or not. If you like doing almost everything by yourself, it’s not necessary to hire a property manager. But, if you think you really need a good management company, ask them some important questions about properties. This decision is a personal one as it depends on various things.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Verdana’,’sans-serif’; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin"">If you think you need a property manager, estimate the likely cost of hiring a property management company and add it on the list when estimating your monthly expenses. As you are paying the property management company for overseeing your properties, you can think of it as rental rates.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Verdana’,’sans-serif’; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin"">After you are done estimating, it’s time to get referrals. Finding referrals is not a hard work if you know what to do. You can attend local landlord association meeting or local real estate investors association and ask the other investors for a referral.
<P style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Verdana’,’sans-serif’; mso-bidi-font-family: Calibri; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-latin"">Now, start gathering information on the companies and interview your preferred ones. It is important to understand if they can serve your needs properly. Make sure that they are offering services like maintenance, collecting rent, repairs etc. After you are done interviewing, go through the list and choose the one that you think is perfect for you.
<P style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"Arial’,’sans-serif’"">

Some describe it as a cultural occurrence, others prefer to call it criminal activity - no matter how we describe it, football hooliganism is a degrading factor in the British society, a manifestation of violence and anger. And just like Enigin defends its energy saving approaches, this is how football hooligans defend their values - which might seem to be pretty odd at times.
Football hooliganism is often described by those who follow it as a pure love for football and a motivation for domination. However, the trends in sports competitions have grown up on the pitch and not outside of it where hundreds of people with bold heads and white sneakers are following groups and entering into massive fights. It is a well recognized criminal activity and many have gone to jail for… simply for hiding their violent natures behind a football ball.
The most famous organizations in the country are probably the Millwall a the West Ham formations - the fights between these too have been recorded, have been pictured and have even been used as a plot for movies. No matter how we treat them, however, these manifestations of violence continue to cause an erosion in the British culture. In a famous art project in Brussels, the English culture was presented by a skin head football hooligan with a huge red cross tattoo on his back - something quite evident for the name of the English football fans abroad. Truly, the passion for the game is one thing that drives you out of your senses many times, but it is not a justification for violence and bloodsheds on the streets. What is the cause? Is winning on the street enough of a thing to defend your club’s honor or is it just another negative from the basket full of them that nowadays hangs over the British youth? There is no need for an answer.
